To date, dental implants are the most modern method of restoring the dentition or individual teeth. Implantation has a wide range of indications and excellent results.
Dentures can loosen over time, bridges need strong support in the form of adjacent teeth, but dental implants are securely fixed once and for all (of course, if you maintain the proper hygiene).
What are the parts of a dental implant?
Everything is the same as in the native tooth: there is a root (titanium rod, which is implanted in the jaw) and a crown (little different from neighboring teeth). The only difference is the abutment that connects the two parts.
Indications for dental implants
Anyone who loses one or more teeth as a result of various injuries, diseases or tooth decay automatically becomes a candidate for dental implantation. If one, several or all teeth are missing, dental implantation helps to restore lost teeth. Elderly people can also undergo the implantation procedure, as the determining factor in the implementation of implantation is less health than age.
Advantages of implantation
- Cosmetic component.
- Restoration of important physiological functions – prevention of negative consequences of missing teeth. With the loss of one or more teeth, over time, bone tissue thins and leads to deformation of the maxillofacial system. The implant, like the natural root of the tooth, serves as a reliable support for bone tissue.
- Does not require treatment of adjacent teeth
- Gives the opportunity to consume any food, can withstand the load of chewing 5-7 times higher than a denture.
- Looks like a natural tooth, gives the patient confidence and pleasant sensations.
- For toothless jaws – helps to get rid of wearing full removable dentures;
- If one or more teeth are missing – do not saw healthy adjacent teeth to wear bridges;
- Implant implantation prevents prevention of jaw bone atrophy;
- implantation prevents the development of jaw deformities;
- Dental implants provide complete chewing of food;
- dental implants provide high comfort of life;
- Implantation of dental implants has almost no absolute contraindications to use.
The doctor determines the possibility of installing an implant after studying:
- dental features of the patient;
- CT scan;
- the amount of bone tissue;
- the general condition of the patient’s oral cavity.
Implant placement
It can be carried out in two ways: one-stage and two-stage.
One-stage dental implantation includes tooth (or teeth) removal, implant placement and temporary crown fixation
Two-stage implantation is performed in several visits and includes:
- bone augmentation surgery to ensure reliable implant fixation (if the patient has partial or complete bone atrophy);
- tooth extraction;
- implant placement;
- installation of the abutment and the crown (after implant engraftment).
