Prosthetics is a set of techniques for restoring the dentition in patients who have lost teeth for various reasons. First of all, prosthetics are aimed at restoring the structure of completely or partially lost teeth.

Dental prosthetics is one of the most important tasks of modern dentistry. After all, the inadequacy of nutrition, which causes a number of gastrointestinal diseases, and aesthetic appearance, motivates the patient to consult a dentist-orthopedist.

In orthopedic dentistry, two types of dentures can be used:

  • Removable are partial or complete dentures that are removable. They can be used for both partial and complete tooth loss.
  • Non-removable structures that are firmly fixed and can only be removed by an orthopedic dentist. These include ceramic inserts and overlays, veneers, crowns, luminaires.

In the field of orthopedic dentistry, treatment can have different purposes:

  • Rehabilitation on implants. This is a treatment that helps replace a lost tooth or several teeth with implants that are inserted into the jaw bone. It serves as a support for the artificial tooth.
  • Elimination of defects associated with improper closure of the dentition. With the help of removable and non-removable structures, the correct position of the dentition is restored, a full-fledged masticatory function.
  • Aesthetic rehabilitation. Veneers are used to make a smile attractive.
  • Prosthetics can also be divided into microprosthetics and macroprosthetics. Microprosthetics include luminaires, veneers, inlays, dental crowns, cult inlays. Macroprosthetics involves the use of removable dentures, bridges, nylon and elastic dentures, splinting structures, dental implants, clasp dentures.

What is a crown?

The crown is, in fact, a filling that covers the tooth on all sides. It is worn on the tooth like a thimble or cap. Crowns are needed to protect weakened or carious teeth. Why are seals not installed in such cases? The fact is that fillings with significant destruction of the tooth will be ineffective, because its thin walls will not be able to hold the filling. Ceramic crowns, in turn, can not only prevent further tooth decay, but also restore the aesthetics of the smile.

The best solution today is crowns that do not use metals. The most modern crowns are made of glass-ceramics, zirconium dioxide, hybrid ceramics reinforced with zirconium dioxide glass-ceramics. There is a certain price level for each type of crown.

Prosthetics on implants

Implant prosthetics with the help of implants is used not only to return the person the opportunity to eat and smile with pleasure, but also allows you to cure or prevent serious dental diseases. Implants are successfully used to restore a single lost tooth or an entire dentition without undue trauma and pain.
